Why the M. Night Shyamalan's Superhero Universe is too Underrated?
Harihar Muni
SUPERHEROES the moment you listen to this word what is the first thing that comes to your mind? A handsome tall ripped shaped body showing off some really incredible with some high-octane actions, right? This is all we think, don't we?
Honestly, it's not your fault but the creators of
these superhero movies/ comic books are the ones who have spoilt us. Today the
most leading or who has a large number of fans are been more attracted to these
commercial or pretty manipulated superhero stories, like the Marvel and DC but
more often Marvel superhero universe. Where their major focus is on attracting
the audiences by really jaw-dropping VFX or some of its top-notch action
sequences instead of constructing the characters and bringing out some really
grounded superhero movies or stories that would be loved why the masses just
like the Batman series or the DC Universe but there is more incredible and
grounded superhero cinematic universe
which just went unnoticed.
The Eastrail 177 trilogy it's famously called the
Unbreakable series by M. Night Shyamalan. Superhero films were not more famous
back than in the early 2000s also there was really no grounded superhero like
Batman or else, but we had one actually two more but they wouldn’t be completely
considered as superheroes. Night Shyamalan introduced the world to some really
mighty and evil fiction characters from the comic. It all started from the 2000
film Unbreakable story written and directed by Shyamalan himself, David Dunn (Bruce
Wills) train accident survivor who was only the passenger who had zero
injuries and nor a single scratch on his body. He is therefore known as
UNBREAKABLE. Just like every human has some weak points our hero had the same,
water was his threat for life. He was the first superhero who was introduced
into the trilogy a completely grounded superhuman who discovered his strength
and superpowers by another intelligent yet character who is very much
confusing also great at the same time. First name Mr, last name Glass yes this
is how he introduce himself; Elijah (Samuel L. Jackson) He had a
very interesting superpower? Yes, we can but his superpower was a curse for
himself, he is as delicate glass can be, a small punch and he is broken into
pieces. When was born his left arm was actually sabotaged very badly no it
wasn’t purposely but by mistake, but just like David Dunn he had weakness
called a mental person who lives in a dream comic world, he was actually very
much smart, this is because he made the world witness that there are
superheroes and supervillains do exists.
Wait
did I say supervillain? Yes there is a supervillain in Night Shyamalan’s superhero
universe and his name is Kevin Windell Crumb, Ms. Patrichia, Dennis, Orwell,
the Beast, I know you are confused to let me explain to you, so basically Kevin (James
McAvoy) is the real character the man who had a very dark past due to which he
is very much attached and affected because of which he is suffering from a dissociative identity disorder. And these names are all these characters whom
he transforms to change himself into any character he has a file saved on his
desktop basically there are not one or a couple of personalities but 23
personalities which were not actually shown but in the final series of the
trilogy had come out of these the most brutal and dangerous is the Beast. The
proper order of watching these three films is very much simplified by the
creator of this incredible yet underrated film. It pretty took 10 years for the
sequel of the film and say goodbye within a span of two years.
Wait
this is not the end actually it’s said that the trilogy is over but, Shyamalan
told Vulture that technically, the
universe he created "could" continue, but he also noted that he has
no plans for another installment in the series. Now let’s wait for the next Shyamalan cinematic
universe or a superhero film series our we can keep our fingers crossed that we
might any spinoff of any characters. The Shyamalan trilogy is so really
underrated but now just like me, there are more fans of such genre, stories.
Lastly, like Mr. Glass said that superheroes are everywhere it’s upon us how we
can bring it and show it to the world. This was a piece from the Archives.
