When it comes to horror, the first word or thought that comes to our mind is the Hollywood/ International Horror Movies. . and second probably Indian horror films which are a handful of made in the Hindi cinema. But to be very honest the international film industry has set many examples of making a good horror film. Not all horror films do or leave an impact on the minds of the audiences but there are some like the Shining, Conjuring, Exorcists, Grudge, The Ring, etc.
These are some films or stories which are made with honesty, honesty means not in terms of hard work but also, these films have some relevance or reality with them, stories which were based on some real incidents or true stories. Our Indian cinema has tried to bring and present such films and has left a cult status in the minds of the horror genre fans. RGV film Raat and Bhoot are still one of the most iconic Horror films made in Indian Cinema but while researching I understood these are somewhat inspired/adapted or fictionalized pieces and served to the audiences, where there have been some filmmakers and Horror fanatics who have tried to bring some real stories from the Indian roots/folklore and stories of the urban legends and some horrors of society which still haunts. So Halloween night is here and you are ready with all your, costumes, and makeups but after Halloween night do you fall asleep without getting goosebumps or being scared? If yes, then here are 7 Indian horror films which would blow away your minds and would never make you go to bed alone and make you think thrice before turning off the light as these films are based on real-life incidents.
1- Manichitrathazhu: 1993

Renowned Psychiatrist Dr. Sunny Joseph lives in America. He decides to travel to a town in India after he gets a distress call from his friend, who belongs to a very noble and wealthy family, to counsel and treat a female family member, who he suspects is responsible for a variety of incidents. Sunny accepts this assignment not realizing that there is another side to this tale, namely a vengeful spirit, who may not respond to his methods, and he may end up endangering everyone's lives.
The story is inspired by a tragedy that happened in the Alummoottil tharavadu, a central Travancore family, in the 19th century. Years ago, the 'karanavar' (head of the family) at the meda, who held the title of 'Alummoottil Channan' and a servant girl was brutally murdered in the mansion The compound of the meda is now overgrown by vegetation, but the building still has a stately appearance. This tragic incident inspired the writer Madhu Muttom to pen the story for 'Manichitrathazhu,' the best psycho-thriller movie produced in Malayalam.

Neha soon starts to see kids playing in the fields and outside the house who disappears suddenly, she also comes across a transistor that has a voice of women playing with kids.
The things, the incidents shown or folklore rituals performed are still, very much common in most of the rural places and also, in the urban cities.
Soon there will be an official Hindi remake released on Amazon Prime Video starring Nushrat Barucha in lead.
3- Stree: 2018
Chanderi village is haunted for years by a witch whose called Stree. She abducts men in the dark leaving their clothes behind during the four-day annual festival. Vicky, a young and handsome village tailor, disbelieves these stories. He meets an Unnamed woman who's in the village every year during the festival. Vicky and the women start getting close to each other. But his friends Jaana and Bitu get suspicious that to date only Vicky has seen the woman and believe that she could be Stree.
The real story behind Stree is an Indian Urban legend Nale Ba, Though 'Nale Ba' means 'come tomorrow' in Kannada, it has become synonymous with the tale of a witch that terrorized the streets of Bangalore in the '90s, long before the city became India's Silicon Valley. According to the massively popular urban legend, the witch would prey on men after dark, knocking on doors at night to lure them out of their homes. She would often call out by imitating the voice of a woman the victim loves -- his mother, his wife, his sister -- asking him to open the door. It is believed that any man who heeded her request would be found dead within a day. The only way to get rid of her was to call out from inside one's home, "Nale ba" or 'come tomorrow'. The man was then safe for the night until she came back the next day.

The movie opens with an ancient Chinese mother and daughter. They seem to spend happy moments with each other with the mother being pregnant. The movie then moves to the present where a happy couple Krish [Siddharth] and Lakshmi [Andrea Jeremiah] make love, bringing in their memories of the times they met and how their love blossomed. They suddenly notice that a new family is moving into the next house. Krish is a doctor who uses electrodes inserted into the brain to bring the sensation to numb fingers. He is close to another doctor, Dr.Prasad, who is a psychiatrist.

After a night of drinking, four friends are stranded due to rain. When one of them suggests they do something thrilling, another friend, an aspiring director, suggests they check out a dilapidated mansion in the vicinity, called Demonte Colony. The other two, even though reluctant, are pulled into joining. Only later do all of them realize they have fallen into a trap that could prove to be fatal.
De Monte Colony off T.T.K. The road is named after one of its early residents, a Portuguese businessman who is reported to have led an unhappy life with a mentally unstable wife and a son who died an untimely death. The details of de Monte’s troubled personal life, coupled with the locality’s dilapidated and deserted look, seem to have contributed to the sensational belief that de Monte Colony harbors ghosts.
